What is the Bod Pod?
The Bod Pod (BP) is an Air Displacement Plethymograph (ADP). It uses a whole-body densitometry to determine body composition, such as fat and fat-free mass, in adults and children, as well as special populations such as the elderly, obese and those with physical disabilities. Its roomy interior accommodates a wide-variety of human shapes and sizes, including subjects or more than seven feet tall or more than 550 pounds. The unique and egg-shaped design maximizes interior space and is routinely used for testing a wide-variety of subjects, such as professional and collegiate athletes. It is the exclusive composition testing method of the NFL scouting combine.
Based on the same gold standard operating principle as hydrostatic (underwater) weighing, the BP uses patented ADP for highly-accurate, fast, and safe results. Additionally, BP offers optional Resisting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) information as part of every body composition assessment. This data is provided without performing any additional testing manouvers. A complete test is approximately five minutes in length.
The BP precision, accuracy and reliability have been validated through many independent research studies with various subject populations [see BP research link] as well as in the field by leading universities, sports teams, fitness clubs, military organizations and weight management centres.
